Comparing Some of Your Cadillac SUV Options
As your Cadillac dealer in Minot, we have people come to us all the time who know they want a Cadillac SUV, but beyond that, they feel pretty lost with all of the different options available. Today, we’re going to take you through three of the Cadillac SUV models that you can choose from and help illustrate the core differences between them. You might’ve noticed we just said “three,” yet there are five different SUVs available from Cadillac—that’s because we’re not going to get into the full-size Cadillac Escalade or the all-electric Lyriq. We’ll help you look at what those have to offer another time, so don’t worry (or you can come visit us to see these differences for yourself today).
So with the Cadillac Lyriq and Escalade aside, we’ll be focusing on the XT4, XT5, and XT6 models available from Cadillac. There are some notable similarities between these three SUVs but also some major differences—not least of all is that they are all different sizes. Rather than give you an overview of each one, we’ll focus on the features and aspects of these vehicles and talk about what each model has to offer. Let’s jump in!
Overall Size
One of the biggest differences between these three vehicles is the size and class of each one. The Cadillac XT4 is a small SUV, while the XT5 is a compact model, and the XT6 is a midsize luxury SUV. If you’re looking for something even larger than that, then you should check out the Cadillac Escalade. Terms like “small” and “compact” can be a bit confusing, but the easy thing to remember is that these models get larger starting with the XT4 and going up to the XT6. These differences go beyond how they’re categorized by class, however, as it impacts their overall size in terms of their dimensions. Specifically:
Cadillac XT4
- Length: 181.1 in.
- Width: 76.7 in.
- Height: 63.2 in.
Cadillac XT5
- Length: 189.6 in.
- Width: 74.9 in.
- Height: 66.1 in.
Cadillac XT6
- Length: 198.5 in.
- Width: 77.3 in.
- Height: 69.9 in.
You can see that for the most part, each model is larger than the last, but there is one major exception to this: the XT4 is actually slightly wider than the Cadillac XT5. It’s not a huge difference by any means, but it’s still worth pointing out. Beyond that, the size increase is generally what you’d expect as you move up from one class to another. When you’re shopping for your next SUV, it’s important to consider the size of your garage or parking space, as well as your lifestyle in general, and choose a vehicle that can fit into your life.
Interior Space
Perhaps just as important as the differences in overall size for these three vehicles are the different amounts of interior space that they’ll provide you with. While you don’t want to choose an SUV that’s much too large for your garage or your personal preferences, you also don’t want something so small that it can’t fit what you need. This includes passengers, of course, but it also includes everything else you need to be able to take with you. If you tend to do a lot of camping or fishing, for example, then you need to consider the supplies, coolers, and other items you need to be able to take with you on the weekend and plan accordingly.
One thing we should mention is that the XT4 and XT5 are both two-row crossover SUVs with seating for up to five people; the Cadillac XT6, however, has a third row and offers seating for up to seven passengers. This is a major difference between these vehicles and something to consider as you’re deciding on which one is right for you. Not only does this mean you can bring more people along in the XT6, but it also translates to much more total cargo volume inside, particularly with the rear seats down. To see exactly how much of a difference this makes, let’s look at the room inside for your passengers and cargo with these three models:
Cadillac XT4
- Passenger Volume: 100.6 cu-ft
- Rear Cargo Volume: 22.5 cu-ft
- Total Cargo Volume: 48.9 cu-ft
Cadillac XT5
- Passenger Volume: 104.5 cu-ft
- Rear Cargo Volume: 30.0 cu-ft
- Total Cargo Volume: 63.0 cu-ft
Cadillac XT6
- Passenger Volume: 137 cu-ft
- Rear Cargo Volume: 12.6 cu-ft
- Total Cargo Volume: 78.7 cu-ft
You can see that the addition of a third-row adds a tremendous amount of additional passenger volume for the XT6, which is good, but it also reduces how much space you get in the very back of the vehicle. If the rear cargo area is especially important to you, then this is definitely worth keeping in mind. That being said, the overall larger size of the XT6 means it has much more total cargo volume for you to utilize if you’re not driving five other people with you. Even with a couple other passengers along for the ride, if you can lower the third row you get more than 43 cu-ft of cargo volume behind the second row of seats in the XT6, which gives you a tremendous amount of space to use.
Engine Options
In terms of performance, there are some key differences between these three vehicles, though they’re not necessarily as stark as how they differ in size. For starters, the XT4 has a single engine available: a 2.0L turbo I-4 that delivers 235 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. You get Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) standard on the XT4, though All-Wheel Drive (AWD) is available on all three of its trims.
By comparison, the XT5 has two different engines for you to choose from: it starts with the same standard 2.0L Turbo I-4 engine as the XT4, but there’s also an available 3.6L V6 engine that gives you 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. Similarly, the XT6 also starts with the standard 2.0L Turbo engine and then has the same 3.6L V6 on its higher two trims. Both of these engines are excellent, and you’re not going to find a bad driving experience in a Cadillac. Still, the differences are worth noting if performance is important to you.
We should mention that all three models come with a 9-speed automatic transmission, regardless of which engine you choose, so you get a smooth and responsive ride no matter what. It’s also worth pointing out that the XT5 and XT6 have a Sport trim available with improved performance, though it’s only offered with AWD, while the other trims on them can come with FWD or AWD, depending on your preference.
Technology and Safety Features
In terms of the impressive technology you’ll find on these vehicles and the advanced safety features they offer, all three models are excellent. Generally, the biggest differences between what you get will depend on the trim level you choose, though some options change based on the model you look at. For example, the XT4’s standard Luxury trim comes with 6-way power-adjustable front seats and has a 2-way power lumbar driver’s seat, with a 4-way power lumbar seat available on the Premium Luxury trim. For the XT5, however, the 2-way power lumbar seat controls are found on the Premium Luxury trim rather than the standard one.
Many other options are similar across all three models: for example, they all start with a 4.2-inch digital driver display and have an 8-inch display on the Premium Luxury trim. In terms of safety features, all three models have impressive standard technology that includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Detection and Braking, and a Forward Collision Alert. Beyond that, higher trims for these models give you more options like available Side Blind Zone Alerts and Lane Change Alerts. The XT6 has Cadillac’s impressive Super Cruise technology available, providing driver assistance to make your trips even easier.
Other Things to Consider
Finally, as you might expect, there is also a difference in price between these models, which makes sense considering how much larger the XT6 is compared to the XT4. The prices will depend on which trim level and other features you choose, of course, but the XT4 is generally the most modestly priced, while the XT5 is a bit higher and the XT6 higher still. No matter which model you choose, you’re going to get a fantastic Cadillac SUV, but it’s important to ensure you pick the right one with everything you need.
